Welcome to the sixth edition of Must Read Monday! On Mondays I will spotlight some new and/or upcoming releases I am looking forward to. The lists will include all genres I like to read, everything from picture books to comics, children’s lit to adult fiction!

This week I am featuring upcoming titles from Judy Blume and Deborah Install:

In the Unlikely Event by Judy Blume
Expected publication: June 2, 2015 by Knopf
The ever-popular Blume makes a return to adult fiction with a new summer-release novel. As per the book’s description, this novel spans the 1950s to 1980s, following three generations of family, friends and strangers affected by major events. Blume has apparently based this novel on her memories from 1950s America: when airline travel was novel and cutting-edge, just starting to grow in popularity when multiple airline disasters shook the nation. While I must admit to enjoying Blume’s YA and children’s titles significantly more than her adult offerings, I am pretty curious to check this novel out!

A Robot in the Garden by Deborah Install
Expected publication: June 30, 2015 by Random House Canada
This debut adult fiction title sounds unconventional and lovely all at once. The book description begins by asking, what would you do if you find a robot in your backyard? Following thirty-something protagonist Ben who decides he’s going to bring the robot back home, readers are promised to be taken on a wonderful, bizarre, globe-spanning adventure. This novel sounds like it could be fantastic- slyly funny and odd without being cutesy. Maybe this debut will read as a blend of Wall-E, The Rosie Project, Oliver Jeffers’ The Way Back Home and Where You’d Go, Bernadette ?…we shall see!
